Almeria has hosted its first international Tournament in Cabo de Gata - Spain
The first IFBT Beach Tennis ever celebrated in Cabo de Gata (Almeria) and Andalusia was held on 27th and 28th December 2014. It was a Category G5 world championship qualifier. The weather conditions in Almeria allow for beach tennis to be played all year around in contrast to other areas of Europe.
On Saturday, 12 couples played in the mixed category. Laura Morales and Gustavo Martin were champions after defeating Beatriz Martinez and Raul Martinez. Zvezdana Tatic and David Aldavero were third. The children's tournament was also played on those dates; its contestants came from the sports school that organized the Christmas Tournament. Mario Martinez won this tournament.
Sunday was the time for Men's and Women's doubles, with 12 and 8 couples respectively. Darius Cernauskas and Antonio Jesus Marquez were the winners in the men's category, and Juan Mota and Ignacio Almagro were second on the podium. Juan Fenoy and Javier Yuste were third. In women's, Laura Morales and Carmen Lopez got the gold medal. Beatriz Martinez and Beatriz García were second and Gema Roman and Zvezdana Tatic were third.
This Christmas tournament organized by the Club Tenis Playa Cabo de Gata closes the IFBT 2014 calendar. We will shortly inform you of the events for the new year. However, we would like to remind you that the IFBT has already published the dates for the Barcelona World Championship, which is going to be held on 25th-28th June.
