Beach Tennis World Cup 2015 Cancun, Mexico
Cancun brushed up to host one of the season highlights: Beach Tennis World Cup IFBT 2015 (WCT). The tournament was held at the Me Hotel Cancun in Quintana Roo (Mexico), from 18th to 20 th September. The winners were awarded with a $5,000 prize, a prize worth the category of the World Cup Tour. The IFBT of Mexico was in charge of managing the WCT, chosing the venue and court distribution. The Mexican IFBT is one the most active Beach Tennis federations in Central America in terms of promoting and developing this sport internationally.
Men's, Women's and +40's singles were played on the first day of the tournament. In Men's singles the Portorrican players Vladimir Helmut and Carlos Rivera reached the final and won gold and silver respectively. Marisa Mora (USA) defeated the Canadian Marie Pier Huet in the Women's final. The Americans Donny Young and Eric Block defeated the pair Stefan Segall (USA) and Mariano Erricalde (ARG) in +40 doubles. Men and Women's doubles were held on the second day (Saturday). Imanol Arconada (PRI) and Luis Miguel Peñalverty defeated the Brazilians Fausto Rossi and Joao Nunnan in the Men's doubles final. Barbora Jikova (USA) and Marie Pier Huet (CAN) won the Women's double gold medal to the finalists Adrienne Cerra (USA) and Nyala Hordones (BRA). For three days the players filled the Beach Tennis courts from 10:30am to 6pm.
The Mexican Federation wants to highlight the support of the tournament sponsors, Sexy Beach Tennis, Me Cancun, OVC, Coords Light Beer, Perrier and Red Bull. The tournament organizers have already confirmed these sponsors will be invited to support the tournament's next edition.
